At that time the candidate would be eligible to run for re-election for another 4 year term.
This appointment requires that you be a resident of Algoma Township or be in the process of becoming a resident.
_______________________________________________________________________________________ Responsibilities Include:
1.
Oversees the daily operations and staff of the Township Clerk's office.
Appoints and oversees a Deputy Clerk.
2.
Serves as official custodian for the safekeeping and management of all official Township records and documents, including the ordinance book, book of oaths, resolutions, contracts/agreements, policies, minutes, and bonds of officials.
Also maintains administrative records and other items as prescribed.
3.
Establishes record keeping systems, maintains related indexes and provides for the proper retention and disposition of records according to statutory guidelines.
4.
Responds to public inquiries, researches and provides public information, and processes Freedom of Information Act requests.
5.
Develops public relations strategies and informational campaigns to communicate Township services, programs and amenities to the public.
Administers Township's website and assists with / edits Township newsletter.
Prepares other correspondence.
6.
Works with various boards, commissions and committees and serves as secretary of the Township Board.
Prepares meeting agendas and packets, posts legal notices, and prepares meeting minutes.
7.
Supervises voter registration and maintenance of voter records.
8.
Administers elections and recruits, trains, and supervises election inspectors.
Ensures the integrity of the election process and transfers official election results to the County.
9.
Maintains the General Ledger, prepares financial statements, and assists with audit activities.
10.
Processes accounts payable and payroll.
Prepares related quarterly and annual reports, W-2's and 1099's.
11.
Administers various benefit and insurance programs including health, life, disability liability, and pensions.
12.
Maintains sureties for various site plans and maintains site plan escrow accounts.
13.
Maintains cemetery records and coordinates related activities, including grounds and maintenance management through contracted workers.
14.
Assists in preparing the annual budget and, as a member of the Township Board, is involved in policy making and overall Township management.
15.
Performs all duties as required by State Law.

32-40 per week, some nights and weekends Education and
Experience:
Must be a Township resident who is registered to vote.
A high school diploma and additional college education in bookkeeping, office management or a related field would be helpful in this position, though not required.
The ability to obtain a State of Michigan Election Officials Accreditation is required.
The ability to obtain registration as a Public Notary is preferred.
Knowledge of the laws, ordinances and related legislation pertaining to records management, elections, financial reporting, and the administration of Township government.
Skill in compiling and evaluating complex administrative guidelines and formulating policy and service recommendations.
Skill in managing Clerk's office staff, operations and programs.
Skill in the use of office equipment and technology, including computers and related software, and the ability to master new technologies.
Ability to establish effective working relationships and use good judgment, initiative and resourcefulness when dealing with citizens, the media, elected officials, employees, other governmental agencies and municipal professionals.
Ability to maintain records and prepare comprehensive reports.
Ability to effectively communicate and present ideas and concepts orally and in writing.
Ability to work effectively under stress and changes in work priorities.
Ability to attend meetings scheduled at night or other than regular business hours.
License/Certification:
